How do I make a payment for a failed subscription renewal?

What’s Happening:

You received an email that your recent subscription payment failed and you lost access to your Ascension Academy Membership content inside The Sophia Code App. Don’t worry! You’ll immediately regain access to your membership content as soon as your failed payment is resolved. Most issues can be fixed with updating your card on file.

Keep in mind: Our app subscription is offered through 4 different payment providers, knowing which one you subscribed to is important.

✅ Quick Solution:

  1. 🌐 For website subscriptions: Add a new card or update expired payment information in your My Account settings.
  2. 📱 Apple Store Subscription (Apple iOS): Update your card on file through your phone’s settings
  3. 🤖 Google Play Subscription (Android): Update your card on file through your phone’s settings
  4. 🧑‍💻App web portal subscriptions: Update your card on file inside your app profile HERE

🔧 Step-by-Step Solution

1. 🌐 For Website Subscriptions

for memberships purchased directly through thesophiacode.org

  1. Go to thesophiacode.org/my-account/
  2. Scroll down to “Payment Methods” in the left menu
  3. Add your new card to your account and delete the expired or old card
  4. Click on the “Orders” tab to find any “Pending” orders
  5. If there are any “Pending” orders, click “Pay” to re-instate your membership
⚠️ IMPORTANT: Be sure to click on the “Orders” tab to find any “Pending” orders that need to be manually paid

2. 📱 Apple Store Subscription (Apple iOS)

For memberships purchased through iPhone/iPad or the Apple App Store

  1. Open the settings on your iPhone or iPad
  2. Click the top box on the Settings screen where your name appears (you’ll see text that might say “Apple ID, iCloud, or Media Purchases”)
  3. On the next screen, click “Payment & Shipping” (you may be asked to enter your Apple account password on the next screen)
  4. Update the credit card stored in your Apple Account
⚠️ IMPORTANT: For subscriptions made via the Apple App store, changing your payment method for our app subscription will change your payment method for all other app subscriptions on your phone.

3. 🤖 Google Play Subscription (Android)

If you signed up to our service using your Android device or other Google product, the steps below will help you to change your payment method:

  1. Open the Google Play app.
  2. Select your profile icon in the top right corner.
  3. Select Payments and Subscriptions.
  4. Update your payment method stored on your phone
⚠️ IMPORTANT: For subscriptions made via the Google Play store, changing your payment method for our app subscription will change your payment method for all other app subscriptions on your phone.

4. 🧑‍💻Web Portal of The Sophia Code App

If you signed up to our service through our Web platform, the steps beneath will help you cancel your subscription:

  1. Login to the web portal of our app HERE
  2. Click Settings at the bottom of the left hand side menu.
  3. Click Edit Billing details
  4. Change your payment method and click save

🔍 Common Causes of Payment Failures

💳 Expired or Invalid Card
Credit cards expire every 2-4 years and need to be updated before the expiration date.
Solution: Add new card with current expiration date in account settings

💰 Insufficient Funds
Bank account doesn’t have enough money or credit card has reached its limit.
Solution: Add funds to account or pay down credit card balance

🚫 Bank Security Block
Banks often block recurring international charges as fraud protection.
Solution: Call bank to authorize recurring charges from The Sophia Code Foundation

📍 Billing Address Mismatch
Address on file doesn’t match what your bank has on record for the card.
Solution: Update billing address to match bank records exactly

🔄 System Processing Errors
Temporary technical issues with payment processors or internet connectivity.
Solution: Wait 24 hours and try payment again, or contact support

📱 App Store vs Website Confusion
Trying to update payment through wrong platform (website vs phone’s app store).
Solution: Update payment where you originally subscribed (check email receipts)

Advanced Troubleshooting:

🛡️ Prevent Future Payment Failures

  • Update payment methods 30 days before expiration
  • Keep backup payment method on file
  • Add “The Sophia Code Foundation” to your safe sender list to ensure you receive all payment notifications
  • Keep sufficient funds/credit available on billing dates
  • Update account if you move or change banks
  • Save our emails to avoid missing payment notifications
